History & Purpose
We affirm the unity of God and humanity in that the Divine Nature dwells within and expresses through each one of us by means of our acceptance of God as love, wisdom, life, truth, power, beauty, health, supply, and peace.
OFJ exists in response to this affirmation and provides a community where this affirmation can be realized individually and explored in the company of like-minded people.
OFJ was formed to provide a space where all can help lead the other to the full realization of the truth taught by Christ that we are not separate from God, from Jesus or from each other, and that the key to understanding this is Love.
OFJ emerged in response to “church.” We formed as an Order to provide an alternative to “church” yet fulfilling our need to belong, to experience community, and to fellowship together. We believe that OFJ fits the description of “church” as set forth in the Book of Acts.
OFJ seeks to recover the original teachings of Jeshua and employ them to fulfill the original purpose of Christ as Jeshua which is to establish the Kingdom of God on earth…not at some future time, but NOW.
OFJ can trace its roots to the Franciscan Order. The Companions of St. Francis formed in San Antonio, Texas, in 1976. This order was formed within the Liberal Catholic Church and it gave expression to Liberal Catholic Theology in a Franciscan environment. The Order of St. Francis provided food banks, shelter, and clothing for all in need, as well as providing for their spiritual needs.
OFJ emerged from that order in 1995. Originally OFJ was an ecumenical order of clergy from many jurisdictions within the Anglican and Liberal Catholic traditions, as well as from some Protestant denominations. In 1998 the Order of the Friends of Jeshua shifted its focus from being an order of clergy to an all-inclusive order with the simple message, “Love is who you are.”
God is Love. Christ is Love. We are Love. It is Love that binds us together.
OFJ is dedicated to assisting in personal spiritual growth and the process of awakening through education and by providing spiritual support and empowerment for the Soul’s progression of unfolding our Divine Potential. This Divine Potential is our Perfection.
OFJ offers spiritual study programs and dialog that includes prayer, spiritual exercises, meditation, contemplation, and discussion, as well as a program of ministry study for those called to be ordained into apostolic ministry as taught by Christ.
We accomplish this through audio-conferencing, online learning, and retreats. OFJ establishes learning centers, ordains clergy, performs ceremonies, and provides support to public services in the communities in which we live.
We invite everyone who wants to experience themselves as Divine Love and as children of Divine Love to join us.
Emily Cady wrote, “God is wisdom and intelligence. All the wisdom and intelligence that we see in the universe is God, is wisdom projected through a visible form. To educate, (from educare, to lead forth) never means to force into from the outside, but always means to draw out from within something already existing there. God, as Infinite Wisdom, lies within every human being, only waiting to be led forth into manifestation. This is true education.”
